A tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Windsor and Essex County.
Environment Canada said conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms Monday evening which have the potential to produce tornados.
The national weather agency said severe thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon and evening ahead of a cold front.
Winds could reach 90 km/h and large hail is possible, Environment Canada warned.
The National Weather Service in the United States has also issued a tornado watch for much of southeastern Michigan.
