Summer Fun includes event and festival information that has been provided to The Windsor Star and has been compiled by staff. The Star’s advertising staff involved in this publication strives to be as complete and accurate as possible.

May 24

  • Windsor Area Street Rods Annual Car Show at Gil Maure Park, LaSalle. Hot rides, live music, and great food. Featuring trophies, door prizes and a tire change competition. Event runs rain or shine. Proceeds go to ALS of Windsor and Essex County. Cost is $10.
  • Essex County Charity Wine Tour. The Squadron Sponsoring Committee is holding a Charity Wine Tour to benefit the 364 Lancaster Squadron Air Cadets.   • The Motorcycle Ride For Dad is a great day of riding, poker run, prizes, steak dinner and much more all while helping to raise money to fight prostate cancer for our community. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Parade leaves at 10 a.m.

May 30

  • Art at Sadler’s Pond a student based art show featuring displays of outstanding work done by elementary and secondary students from seven Essex and area schools. There is also a show and sale of artwork by local artists. Activities such as face painting, dancing with streamers, and balloon twisting available for younger children. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • 2k2k Tutu Run & Ride: 2km will be running/walking and the other 2km will consist of bicycle riding. The bicycle riding is completely optional. All proceeds of the event will go to Access County Community Support Services. Starts at 10 a.m. at 23 Mill Street W, Kingsville. Visit 2k2ktutu.com.

  • The Rotary Club of Windsor Roseland celebrates the 31st anniversary of Lobsterfest, one of the year’s most anticipated all-you-can-eat extravaganzas. Ciociaro Club, 6 p.m. For tickets call 519-981-1713.

June 1-6, 12-13, 29

Heart & Stroke Big Bike is one of the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s most FUN-raising fundraising events. Causing a commotion wherever it goes, the event is named after the BIG 30-seat BIKE. Teams made up of 29 enthusiastic riders and one driver pedal through over 200 communities, across nine provinces raising funds, attention and laughs along the way. June 5

Windsor-Essex’s Road Runner Road Rally: teams complete puzzles and search for clues while watching the clock to raise money for a great cause. The event starts at 5:45 p.m. at Corpus Christi Church and ends with dinner, cash bar, raffle prizes with bonus points for dressing according to the theme. All proceeds go towards The Summit Centre for Preschool Children with Autism. For more information contact windsorroadrunner@gmail.com

June 5-7

Art in the Park at Willistead Park. Friday night launch party in the Spirit Tent and more than 280 vendors will be featured Saturday and Sunday. There will be a food court, live performances, a Kids Zone and more. For tickets and info visit artintheparkwindsor.com.

June 6

  • Awakenings is having a Spring Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 143. There will be healers, light workers, wellness services and products being sold. Mini healing treatments and spiritual readings being offered. Speakers will share insights and information. There will be three draws and entertainment.
  • Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life: Fun for all ages, taking place at the Riverfront Festival Plaza in Downtown Windsor. Runs from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Call 1-866-201-6202 or visit relayforlifeontario.ca.
  • Ribs and Ragtime at The Black Museum, 277 King St., Amherstburg: An evening of jazz performed by the Straight Ahead. Ribs provided by Smoke and Spice, chicken by Broaster Chicken. For tickets and details,visit blackhistoricalmuseum.org.

June 7

The sixth annual Walk to Fight Arthritis at Malden Park: Participants choose between a 1km or 5km walk route along with the 5km fun run option. This is a pet friendly park. At 11 a.m. join for a free post Walk BBQ, door prize draws, team and participant recognition and children’s fun area. Registration opens 8:30-9:30 a.m. and walk starts at 10 a.m.

 June 11-14

June 12-14

Celebrate culture at Riverfront Plaza for Carrousel of the Nations’ Carrousel by the River with cultural cuisine and world-class music. June 13

  • Colchester Walleye Derby includes fishermen from far and near including London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Goderich, Michigan, Ohio and Essex County. The Kinsmen will host the hospitality tent – lots of food and beverages. Activities include door prizes, beer tent, fish fry, cash prizes and children’s play area.   • The 26th annual McGregor Music Festival for cancer: Raffles, car show, pig auction, food, cash bar, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Co-An Park, McGregor. Adults $5, kids under 12 $2. Proceeds go to Windsor Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation. For more information call 519-253-3191 x 58559.
  • The fifth annual Bob Probert Memorial Ride, in memory of #24, “The Enforcer,” begins in front of Thunder Road Harley-Davidson at 10:30 a.m. and riders travel down Ambassador and Malden roads through LaSalle and River Canard, making several stops along the way. Summer Fest is the signature festival of Windsor signifying the start of summer. Highlights include the Tugboat Race, Riverfront by Bike, Ford Fireworks (June 22), Weekend Concert Series and a world-class midway. The Fest wraps up on Canada Day with a parade, a giant 5,000-piece cake and the Symphony of Sound and Light performance. Visit summerfestwindsor.org.

June 19-20

  • The Leamington Fair highlights Carter Shows midway, home craft, culinary arts, poultry, petting zoo, vendor alley, harness racing, bike giveaway, largest school art display in Southwestern Ontario under one roof, tractor display, implement dealer and so much more.   • The St. Clair Beach Optimist Club will be hosting the first annual Taste of Tecumseh at Lakewood Park. The event will showcase local food, beer, wine and music. Tickets are $15 and the event will be raising funds for the community. Must be 19 years or older.

 June 19-21

  • Windsor King Fest is pleased to announce that it is now a preliminary qualifier for The King of the World competition in Memphis during Elvis Week. Local and international Elvis Tribute Artists will compete for cash prizes and the right to represent Windsor at one of the most prestigious competitions in the world. LaSalle Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Cost is $10, 12 and under free. Roam amongst the 10 most beautiful gardens in the town of LaSalle. Event runs rain or shine. No pets allowed. Ticket booth at Front Road and Laurier Drive, the day of the event.

July 1

  • Enjoy free activities and celebrate Canada Day at one of Canada’s most historic sites along the waterfront, Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada, 100 Laird Ave., Amherstburg.   • Amherstburg Ice Cream Festival at Toddy Jones Park across from Fort Malden. Many ice cream, frozen and sweet treat vendors as well as local artisans on site. Free children’s activities and a splash pad.
  • Lakeshore’s Canada Day celebration kicks off at 4 p.m. July 1st at the Comber Fair Grounds and Park located at 7100 Community Centre Street, Comber with a parade followed by a flag raising ceremony. Activities and entertainment will start at 5 p.m. until the fireworks at approximately 9:50 p.m.

July 3-5

The Rock Me Anaphylaxis event helps raise allergy, asthma and anaphylaxis awareness. All donations will be going to The Windsor Allergy Asthma Education Centre and Research for Allergies and Asthma. The Run starts at 9 a.m. at the Fork & Cork Festival at Riverfront Plaza in downtown Windsor.

July 10-12

  • Bluesfest Windsor is a community event with the mandate to produce an annual world class music festival, promoting local, regional and international artists. It is North America’s ninth largest blues festival and one of the top 12 blues venues in North America. Gregg Rolie, lead singer and founding member of Santana and Journey, returns to headline Saturday’s show. Local teenage sensation and guitarist Cristian Vegh will also be among the performers, along with the Lowrider Band. Visit bluesfestwindsor.com for details and tickets.
  • The Essex Fun Fest is a three-day family-friendly fun-packed weekend at the Essex Centre Sports Complex and Fairgrounds. The 13th annual International Dragon Boat Festival comes back to Riverside Drive at the foot of Manning Road in Tecumseh. Today, the event sees over 100 unified and passionate teams with thousands of paddlers who have raised and donated $1.9 million toward much-needed equipment in local hospitals. The Sunsplash Festival celebrates summer fun with a Classic Car Cruise Show and Road Tour, wild rides, watercross racing, live musical entertainment on the water, food, drinks, a parade and so much more.

Walkerville hosts the annual Walkerville Art Walk & Rock. Take a stroll through the shops, small businesses and restaurants along the streets of Walkerville. You’ll meet local artists and musicians and enjoy a mini food festival. This pedestrian-friendly setting is fun for children and adults alike.

 July 24-26

Mosaic is a three-day festival that celebrates the rich cultural diversity of Leamington and surrounding area. Restaurants, local clubs and organizations of all ethnicities come together to celebrate culture through food, entertainment, history, arts and crafts.  July 25-26

Explore the Shore is a weekend festival that celebrates the unique businesses that line historic County Rd 50 – Canada’s southermost drive. Explore the Shore is a fundraiser for the local food bank. All businesses collect change or cans. For details visit exploretheshore.ca.

Media City is an annual international festival of film and video art presented in Windsor and Detroit since 1994. Each year the festival attracts filmmakers and audience members from around the globe to participate in five days of screenings, live performances, exhibitions and artist’s discussions. Aug. 1-2

  • Discover history as it comes to life at Fort Malden National Historic Site during Military Heritage Days. Experience tactical demonstrations, military encampments and unique children’s activities. Bring the whole family to an astounding weekend of firepower and fun.
  • The Island Unplugged is a family friendly festival featuring local and regional Canadian musicians, artisans, local wine, beer and food creations. Saturday, 1–11 p.m., Sun. 12:30–11 p.m. Admission $30 (advance purchase recommended). Visit theislandunplugged.org.

  • Comber Fair. Classic Show & Shine, Miss Comber Fair Competition, Antique Tractor Show, animal exhibits, horse shows and competitions, home arts competitions, lawn mower races, Western Fair pre-talent contest, music, parade and kids’ talent contest, Sunday Demolition Derby, Beer Tent events, Essex County 4H Club events and auctions. $7 per day, $15 weekend pass, kids 12 and under free.   • Kingsville Folk Music Festival at Lakeside Park in Kingsville. Three-day ticketed, outdoor celebration – three daytime session stages, children’s stage and evening main stage.  Aug. 8-9

Woofa-Roo Pet Fest is a fun filled festival for “Pets and Their People” featuring live presentations, such as Dog Agility, Windsor Police K9 Unit, Meet the Breed and CAN/AM canine tournaments including Dock Diving Dogs and Flyball. Participate in new “Silly Pet Trick Show” or “Fairy Tails Costume Contest.” Registration fees support local Humane Society. There will be pony rides, specialty vendors, artisans, live entertainment, face painting, food and much more. The Libro Complex, 3295 Meloche Road, Amherstburg. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. $5 per person $10 per vehicle (unlimited passengers).

Aug. 9

  • At the Lost Arts Festival see demonstrations of lost arts and learn tips from the experts on becoming more self-sustaining. Visit the reenactors’ camp and learn about life in an earlier time. Stay for the day and enjoy hands-on activities, live music, livestock displays and games for children. At John R. Park Homestead from 12-4 p.m.
  • The annual Pride Parade begins at 11 a.m. at Ouellette Avenue and Elliot Avenue and proceeds through downtown Windsor to the Riverfront Festival Plaza. This year’s festival focuses on bringing all different segments and groups together to celebrate the accomplishments made in the Windsor-Essex region and Canada as a whole.

Aug. 10-16

Eat Your City Restaurant Week. For one week, you can visit any Eat Your City participating restaurant and indulge in three-course meals for lunch or dinner at great values across the county. Each restaurant will offer a unique Eat Your City menu and highlight the diverse and exceptional local dining in the region. Visit the website windsoreats.com/eatyourcity.

Aug. 13-16

The fifth annual Windsor Ribfest will feature ribbers who will battle for awards during the four-day event. Live entertainment is featured in our unique beer garden with seating on the stage overlooking the beautiful Detroit skyline. Ribfest also includes vendors selling and displaying products. This is a free event.

  • The 32nd annual Leamington SUNSET® Tomato Festival at Seacliff Park in Leamington is an exciting three day event featuring local flavours with fresh food tastings, live entertainment, fun activities and much more. Visit leamingtontomatofestival.com for more information. 
  • The 31st annual Steam and Gas Engine Show features steam and gas engines, flea market, crafts, bake sale, bean pot, souvenirs, threshing demonstrations, antique tractor pull demonstrations, entertainment and saw mill demonstrations. Featuring a kaleidoscope of colour and endless excitement, Balloonapalooza is the family event of the summer. McGregor Mug and Run 5k and International Beer Fest: Kit pick-up is located at Co-An Park and opens at 12 p.m., race at 3 p.m. All ages can participate in race, 19+ for alcoholic beverages. The 161st Harrow Fair. Come to the fair and enjoy the displays of fruit and vegetables, baking, needlework, farm animals and arts and crafts. Carter Shows again provides the midway and rides. There are numerous shows that you and your family can experience. Horse shows, tractor pulls, lawnmower races, 4-H competitions, parade and auctions as well as our main stage entertainment.

The Ruthven Apple Festival features a parade, car show, non-stop entertainment, more than 100 craft and food booths and a farmer’s market. Events take place at Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens in Ruthven. All proceeds benefit Community Living Essex County. Visit Thiessen Orchards in September and October for free wagon rides on the weekends for apple and pumpkin picking. Open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Get lost in the corn maze, get spooked in the Haunted Barn and enjoy the huge play area.

South Port Sailing School offers a summer of fun and education on Lake St. Clair for youth, ages 6-16. KIDSAIL provides an introduction to sailing for children 6-8.
