A special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada for Windsor and Essex County, where temperatures are expected to “go up and down like a roller coaster.”

“A big change is coming as winter clashes again with spring. Showers, accompanied by occasional wind gusts up to 85 km/h, are moving in from Southwestern Ontario,” warned the national forecaster in a bulletin issued at 9:18 a.m. Monday. “This will herald an end to the first taste of almost summerlike weather across the regions.”

The forecaster warned of a “very sharp Arctic cold front” that will cause a dramatic drop in temperatures. Rain showers are forecast to become ice pellets near midnight and then to snow overnight in Windsor. As muchs as 2 to 4 centimetres of snow are possible.

The high Tuesday is forecast at -1C. It will warm up slightly on Wednesday with a forecast high of 3 C. Spring-like conditions then return to the region with a high of 12 C Thursday and high of 13 C Friday.

High winds caused a power outage Monday, April 14, 2014, to homes in the 2500 block of George Ave. after a large car canopy was blown into hydro wires. The canopy caused wires to short and burn. EnWin Utilities technicians check out the canopy after it was freed from the hydro wire. (DAN JANISSE/The Windsor Star)
