Visitors to the John R. Park Homestead can delve into 400 years of French presence in Ontario, while enjoying some sweet maple treats.
The bilingual exhibition titled Ontario’s Franophonie: Then and Now narrates the progress, conflicts and accomplishments that have contributed to Ontario’s culture, politics, economy and society. It runs through March 31.
In addition, the homestead has a slate of events during March, all centred around maple syrup. The schedule begins with a Maple Syrup Festival on March 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Family centred, outdoor activities will be held March 15 and March 18 at 1 p.m. Admission is $4 per child, $6 for an adult with a $20 family maximum (up to 3 kids and 2 adults.)
Food lovers will want to check out two events. First is an old-fashion sugaring off party during Maple Moon on March 15 at 7 p.m. Cost is $15 and pre-registration is required.
A Maple Dinner fundraiser will be held March 19 at the Oxley Estate Winery, with a five-course meal that will feature a hint of maple in every bite. Cost is $65. Call 519-738-3264 for reservations. Seating is limited.
“Maple spans a number of facets of Canadian culture, and the tradition has deep roots in many of Canada’s Francophone communities,” said curator Kris Ives. “The exhibition strengthens our current French-language programming, providing our guests with a whole new layer to explore.”
