WEtech Alliance, Windsor’s technology accelerator, is looking for some tech-savvy entrepreneurs.
The group is creating a new program with a $50,000 grant from the Libro Credit Union. Called Libro StartUP, the program will provide financial and mentoring support to entrepreneurs who are starting a business.
WEtech spokeswoman Yvonne Pillon said the program is seeking five entrepreneurs who are at the end of the idea stage and ready to move forward with a plan. Each will receive $5,000 in seed funding and the rest of the money will help to subsidize other expenses such as rent. The program will begin in January and is open to budding entrepreneurs of all ages.
Nine other Essex County organizations are benefiting from $141,000 in grants announced Thursday through the Libro Credit Union 2016 Prosperity Fund.
The groups include the River Lights Winter Festival and Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce ($5,000), Firehorse Leadership Organization in Amherstburg ($5,000), Belle River high school ($10,000), Essex County Grain Farmers of Ontario District 1 ($7,500), Essex and Community Historical Research Society ($5,000), Community Living Essex County ($21,039), Access County Community Support Services in Harrow ($20,000), Kingsville Historical Park Museum (($10,000), Rise Asset Development in Leamington ($7,500).
“As a co-operative, we believe we can accomplish so much more together through collaboration and partnership,” said Stephen Bolton, Libro Credit Union president and CEO, in a news release. “The 2016 recipients are stellar examples of the diverse outstanding work being done, in the 25 communities Libro passionately serves.”
Libro is investing more than $500,000 in 41 community groups, schools, legions and clubs across Ontario.
