Amherstburg became the final community in Essex County to fall in line with the smoking policies of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
Town council voted Monday to ban smoking tobacco products and vaping in parks, outside recreation centres and at sports fields. Under the bylaw, a person must be at least nine metres away from these facilities before lighting up.
Town administration will embark on a public awareness campaign through a media release, social media and the town website.
