Environment Canada has issued a heat warning and severe thunderstorm watch for Windsor and Essex County.
The national weather agency says conditions are favourable for “the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain. There is also a risk of a tornado.”
The watch warns of severe thunderstorms possibly starting late morning and continuing until this evening.
The heat warning advises people to take precautions against rising temperatures.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued a level one heat alert.
A warm and humid airmass will blanket the region today with temperatures soaring to 32C with a humidex value of 40 or higher.
Watches and warnings may be issued later today as the system approaches the region.
