Buying and selling on the Internet in Essex County became a little bit safer Thursday when Kingsville OPP joined Project Safe Trade.

The project is designed to combat potential crimes including theft, fraud and the sale of stolen property by giving people a safe place to meet up while buying and selling items posted online.

There will be an area of the detachment parking lot designated as a Safe Trade zone for people to meet. Police won’t help negotiate transactions but they will be there if something goes wrong.

Tecumseh OPP detachment has been a Safe Trade zone since April. Lakeshore OPP also joined in November.
