A heat warning remains in effect for the Windsor-Essex region in the midst of what Environment Canada is calling “the first heat event of the season.”
Thermometers are expected to peak at 33 C (91.4 F) on Monday, with a humidex rating of 41 — high enough to cause “great discomfort” and to make outdoor exertion problematic.
Monday’s conditions continue a temperature trend that began on Saturday.
Environment Canada reminds the public to drink plenty of water, to watch for signs of heat illness, and to never leave people or pets inside parked vehicles.
The mercury is expected to fall below heat warning criteria on Tuesday, with the forecast calling for a 40 per cent chance of rain and a temperature high of 29 C (84.2 F).
Windsor has not had a June 12 this hot since 1954.
The coldest June 12 on Windsor-Essex record was in 1985, when thermometers sank to 8.7 C (47.6 F).
