Essex County OPP said a “high number” of Criminal Code driving charges kept the police force busy over the Canada Day long weekend.
Nine people were arrested for driving offences and seven licence suspensions were issued. The OPP held three RIDE programs over the four-day holiday weekend.
The licence suspensions ranged from three to 45 days in length. Impaired operators’ vehicles and boaters were also towed away and impounded.
“This past Canada Day weekend resulted in the arrest of several people for impaired operation of motor vehicles and a vessel,” Glenn Miller, detachment commander of the Essex OPP, said in a statement. “Essex County OPP members, along with the public’s assistance, will continue to remain aggressive in identifying those individuals, who in many cases simply believe they won’t get caught. ”
