Five people, including three children, were rushed to hospital after a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon east of Leamington.

The Ontario Provincial Police closed the intersection of County Rd. 34 and County Rd. 37 and were investigating the collision that occurred around noon. Police said some of those involved received life-threatening injuries.

All the injuries were suffered by occupants of a Toyota van, which collided with a Freightliner transport truck.

The OPP, Leamington Fire Services and emergency medical services crews responded to the crash, with the OPP’s technical collision investigators looking into the cause of the crash.

As of early Saturday night, a stretch of County Road 34 (Talbot Road East) remained closed, with “reopening time unknown,” according to the OPP.
