The suspect of multiple pharmacy robberies in Ontario and Alberta — including nine in Windsor-Essex alone — has been arrested in his hometown of Sarnia.
Dustin Ross Robinson, 34, who was the subject of a recent Canada-wide arrest warrant, was taken into custody by Sarnia police on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said they received a tip around 2:15 p.m. that Robinson had been seen in Sarnia’s downtown core.
Further investigation led to a Sarnia residence, where Robinson was located and arrested around 3:30 p.m.
According to Sarnia police, Robinson has been transferred to the custody of the OPP detachment in Petrola.
Sarnia police thanked the public and expressed appreciation for the peaceful resolution of this matter.
The nation-wide arrest warrant was issued after Robinson failed to appear in court in Calgary.
He was arrested in Calgary in April as the suspect in at least three robbery incidents there.
Despite Robinson’s record, he was granted bail in July on the condition that he remain in Calgary city limits.
Investigators with Windsor police and Essex County OPP believe Robinson was also responsible for multiple pharmacy robberies in our region — four incidents in Windsor and five in Lakeshore.
The crimes took place from October 2016 to February 2017. One Lakeshore pharmacy was targeted three consecutive times.
In total in Ontario, Robinson is expected to face 12 counts of robbery and 12 counts of wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Each incident had a similar characterization of a male brandishing a knife and demanding narcotics.
