A “hold and secure” order was put in place at Cardinal Carter Catholic Secondary School in Leamington for about two hours on Friday because of a rumoured threat to a school with a similar name.
The order — which prevents anyone from entering or leaving the building — was implemented due to a recommendation from York Region OPP, who were investigating online rumours of a gun threat made against a school named Cardinal Carter.
York Region OPP believe the rumours involved the Cardinal Carter Catholic High School in Aurora, but there are multiple schools in Ontario that bear the Cardinal Carter name.
The school in Leamington was placed under “hold and secure” as a precaution. Exterior doors were locked and OPP officers monitored the hallway.
The order lasted from around 9 a.m. to just before 11 a.m. School business went on inside as usual.
York Region OPP found no credible threat to the school in Aurora.
