A student at a French Catholic elementary school in Leamington was arrested over alleged threats, say Essex County OPP.

Provincial police responded around 8:20 a.m. Thursday to a complaint from École Saint-Michel at 33 Sherman St. in Leamington.

School officials reported to police that a student had allegedly sent threats to other students and staff via email.

The student was not on school property at the time. OPP officers located and arrested the suspect elsewhere.

According to police, the incident did not affect classes at the school and there were no concerns for public safety.

An investigation continues.

École Saint-Michel is part of Conseil scolaire catholique Providence — the region’s French Catholic school board.

The school serves approximately 500 francophone students from kindergarten to Grade 8.
