Windsor’s jobless figure rose by a fraction of a percentage for the month of April, according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada.
The unemployment rate for our census metropolitan area last month was 5.5 per cent — going by the Labour Force Survey released Friday.
That’s 0.3 per cent higher than the unemployment rate for Windsor in March, which was 5.2 per cent.
Windsor’s numbers are in line with the national average of 5.8 per cent for April — “essentially unchanged” from March, said Statistics Canada.
London had 5.7 per cent unemployment, Toronto had 5.9 per cent.
The community with the worst unemployment rate in Ontario for April was Barrie, where the figure reached 8.4 per cent — 5 per cent higher than it was in December.
In the same survey, Calgary had 8 per cent unemployment.
St. John’s, Newfoundland, had 8.6 per cent. As a province, Newfoundland continues to deal with the worst unemployment trend in the country, at 14.2 per cent.
