Ready to enjoy some pleasant tunes in a beautiful Essex County setting? Head to Lakeside Park for the 2018 edition of the Kingsville Folk Festival this weekend.

The annual non-profit summer folk festival will offer non-stop musical entertainment from Friday night to Sunday night, happening on four stage areas near the scenic Lake Erie shore in Kingsville.

This year’s lineup features 17 acts from across North America.

Friday night’s headliner will be Alan Doyle, former frontman of Canadian folk rock band Great Big Sea, now a solo performer after the band’s retirement in 2015.

Saturday night’s headliner will be American multi-instrumentalist David Bromberg and his quintet — who will present a musical journey into Americana including folk, bluegrass, blues, jazz, and country.

Closing out the festival on Sunday night will be Canadian singer-songwriter Ian Thomas, best known for his 1973 hit Painted Ladies.

Besides the headliners, attendees will enjoy a wide range of other acts including: veteran children’s music performer Fred Penner; singer-songwriter Heather Rankin of the Rankin Family; Canadian bluegrass band the Slocan Ramblers; manic Newfoundland-based Ukrainian folk band The Kubasonics; Ottawa-born upright bass-playing sensation Angelique Francis; husband-and-wife folk duo Birds of Chicago; and many more.

Want to shop? Browse the offerings of an array of artisans. Feeling hungry or thirsty? Visit the vendors of the festival’s food village. Feeling musically inspired? Check out the workshops on songwriting, guitar playing, and ukulele skills.

With good weather forecast for the entire weekend, this volunteer-run event organized by the Sun Parlour Folk Music Society promises to be — in the words of Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos — “a vintage Essex County experience.”

The 2018 Kingsville Folk Festival happens at Lakeside Park (315 Queen St. in Kingsville). Festival hours are Friday 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Tickets are $40 for each day or get a weekend pass for $95. Free admission for visitors ages 16 and under. Call 1-800-838-3006.
