Provincial police believe serial jewel thieves are at work in Tecumseh and Lakeshore, doing surveillance on homes and breaking in after victims leave for work in the morning.

The Essex County OPP Street Crimes Unit is investigating a string of residential break and enters which all appear to be connected. The thieves always take jewelry, police said.

Investigators believe one of the burglars is a woman in her 40s. She’s about 5’6” with a medium to heavy build and “reddish brown” shoulder-length hair. She was seen wearing a long trench coat style jacket and spoke with some kind of accent. A witness saw her get into a four-door silver sedan after fleeing from one of the homes.

Police are asking people to call if they have contact with this woman or see her in the Tecumseh or Lakeshore areas. You can call Det. Jeff Paquette of the OPP Street Crimes Unit at 519-723-2496 or Crime Stoppers at 519-258-TIPS.
