Opponents of wind turbines have long argued they negatively affect those living near them.
A new study being conducted across Ontario will look at possible health effects on people living within five kilometres of a wind turbine.
The Quality of Life and Renewable Energy Technologies Study being conducted by researchers from the University of Waterloo will send surveys to 5,000 residents from Essex County and Chatham-Kent to Bruce County over the next few weeks.
Selected participants will be asked to take part in a second section of the study that will involve a more in depth health assessment.
Professor Phil Bigelow, an epidemiologist at the School of Public Health and Health Systems at Waterloo, is spearheading the research, which will examine the specific relationship between reported health effects and living near renewable energy technologies.
