The Town of Essex has a new economic development officer who will be responsible for attracting new business to the municipality.
Nelson Silveira had been working in Kitimat-Stikine, B.C., where he prepared the economic development strategic plan for the region, worked on business development initiatives and implemented a series of tourism related projects.
“A key objective in council’s strategic plan for 2016-2018 is to enhance economic development activities through business retention and expansion, attraction of light industry, and downtown improvements,” said Tracey Pillon-Abbs, the town’s chief administrative officer.
“One of Nelson’s primary responsibilities will be … to identify opportunities and develop strategies for business retention, promotion and expansion.”
The position pays between $75,585.30 and $91,874.40.
Silveira started his new job on Monday.
