DJ Cassady was sentenced this morning to 3.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to criminal negligence causing death in connection with a distracted driving case.
Cassady, 24, was texting and driving an Infinity sedan 190 km/h on E.C. Row Expressway in July of 2015 before slamming into the back of a motorcycle being piloted by Donald Russell, 66, of Amherstburg. Cassady had been drinking.
“At that speed the Infiniti was a virtual missile,” said Justice Thomas Heeney before meting out the sentence, which includes a driving prohibition of four years upon Cassady’s release from prison.

DJ Cassady (C) arrives at the Superior Court of Justice in Windsor accompanied by family on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016 for his sentencing on a criminal negligence causing death charge.
