Leamington man arrested in connection with shooting

A 31-year-old Leamington man is facing numerous charges after another man attended the Leamington hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Ontario Provincial Police said members of its major crime unit, tactics and rescue unit, emergency response team, street crime unit and uniform patrol members executed search warrants around 5 a.m. on Feb. 14.

The search warrants were executed at residences on Erie Street South and Montgomery Street in response to a shooting on Feb. 12 around 10 p.m. that sent a 29-year-old Leamington man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. 

On Feb. 14 at about 12:30 p.m., Cesar Cubias-Gonzalez, 31, of Leamington was arrested by the OPP’s repeat offender parole enforcement unit and is being held in custody pending a hearing.

Cubias-Gonzalez is facing charges of assault with a weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, use of a firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm contrary to probation order, two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
