Windsor’s unemployment rate increased to 6.2 per cent in the month of July — up from 5.2 per cent in June, according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada.
But that’s only one tenth of per cent different than Windsor’s unemployment rate for July of last year — 6.3 per cent.
The figures for Windsor are in line with the unemployment rates of other cities in southern Ontario. London dropped to 5.6 per cent while Toronto rose to 6.9 per cent.
The Ontario rate was 6.1 per cent.
The Canada-wide rate was 6.3 per cent. It’s the lowest the national rate has been since October 2008.
According to Statistics Canada, overall employment across the country has improved by 2.1 per cent over the past year, and most of the increase has been in full-time work.
