The fire that burned for 26 hours at a commercial property near Kingsville last week was caused by an electrical accident, according to investigators.

The Kingsville Fire Department said that representatives of the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office have concluded their investigation into the blaze at Global Pack Packaging Solutions at 1928 Road 3 East.

The OFM was contacted about the incident due to the magnitude of the damage — estimated at $1.25 million to the warehouse of the business and its contents.

After igniting during the early morning hours of Dec. 10, the fire wasn’t fully extinguished until the morning of Dec. 11.

Every fire service in Essex County added support to Kingsville Fire Department to deal with the scene.

Kingsville Fire Chief Chuck Parsons said a defensive approach was needed due to the flames being fuelled by the materials involved in the business.

Global Pack Packaging Solutions designs and manufactures plastic packaging — especially for produce.

A section of Road 3 East between Kingsville and Leamington had to be closed for the duration of the fire.

No one was hurt.
