A serious collision in Lakeshore early Tuesday has left a young male motorist fighting for his life, say Ontario Provincial Police.

OPP said the lone driver, an 18-year-old resident of Lakeshore, suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash on Myers Road, south of County Road 42, shortly before 2 a.m.

Emergency responders arrived to find that a vehicle had crashed into a culvert on Myers Road.

The vehicle was severely damaged. Lakeshore firefighters extricated the one occupant from the wreckage and he was rushed to hospital.

Myers Road between County Road 42 and Lions Club Road was closed until around 6 a.m. to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.

The section of Myers Road where the incident happened is a typical county road with one lane in either direction and a posted speed limit of 80 km/h. There are no street lamps or traffic lights.
