The young driver of a vehicle that crashed into a culvert in the Lakeshore area early Tuesday has died from his injuries, say OPP.
Steven Aubin, 18, of Belle River, passed away in hospital following a single-vehicle collision that happened shortly before 2 a.m. on Myers Road south of County Road 42.
The vehicle was severely damaged. Lakeshore firefighters extricated the lone occupant from the wreckage.
Essex-Windsor EMS transported Aubin to hospital for emergency treatment of injuries described as life-threatening.
OPP have not disclosed what caused the accident. Technical collision investigators examined the scene for more than three hours on Tuesday morning.

The section of Myers Road where the crash occurred is a quiet county road with one lane in either direction and a posted speed limit of 80 km/h. There are no street lights or traffic signals.
Aubin’s Facebook page describes him as a student of L’Essor high school.
His family includes his father, mother, two younger brothers, and a younger sister.
Arrangements were still being made at press time.

Aubin’s death is the second traffic fatality in the Windsor-Essex region in the past month to involve a young person in unfortunate circumstances.
Windsor resident Claudia Coulter, 21, died in hospital last week due to injuries she suffered when she was run over by a car after she fell from her bicycle.
On Jan. 17 around 3:30 p.m., Coulter was riding in the 2100 block of Parent Avenue near Tecumseh Road East when she reportedly lost her balance and tumbled into the path of a black Volkswagen Jetta.
Coulter was rushed to hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to them on Jan. 31.
Coulter is survived by her mother, brother, and boyfriend. A memorial service was held for her at Windsor Chapel funeral home on Monday.
