Parts of the area could experience flooding tonight, according to the Essex Region Conservation Authority.
ERCA issued a statement this afternoon advising residents that wet conditions may worsen.
“Due to the existing wet ground conditions, predicted rainfall of 15 to 25 mm today and the unusual slow-moving weather patterns, a possibility of flooding exists along watercourses and in low-lying areas for the entire Essex region,” Tim Byrne, director of ERCA’s watershed management services, said in the statement.
Byrne also noted that with the potential for “high intensity” thunderstorms tonight, flooding could be worse.
The conservation authority advises that precautions should be taken. In particular, ERCA said construction zones should ensure that debris and sediment do not affect drainage facilities, catch basins and stand pipes.
ERCA staff will continue monitoring weather forecasts for the region and will update its statement as required.
